The international competition in the global new energy battery materials industry is intensifying, with green, circular, low-cost, and high-performance materials becoming the key to winning the next round of competition. On July 10, 2024, subsidiaries of GEM, Fu'an Qingmei Energy Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “QM”) and Wuhan Power Battery Recycling Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Power Battery Recycling”) jointly signed the "Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Joint Development and Market Advancement of Graphene Lithium (Manganese) Iron Phosphate Material Industrialization Technology" with Shenzhen Eigen Equation Graphene Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Eigen Equation"). Professor Liu Jianhong, Chairman of Eigen Equation, and Professor Xu Kaihua, Board Chairman of GEM, jointly witnessed the signing.
The three parties will combine their technological, industrial, and market advantages to jointly develop the industrialization technology for graphene-enhanced lithium (manganese) iron phosphate (hereinafter referred to as “LMFP”) materials, starting with the recycling and utilization of lithium iron phosphate batteries and waste. By using graphene to improve the conductivity and electrochemical performance of recycled and remanufactured LMFP materials, the energy density and life of the batteries can be increased, enabling the high-value reuse of recycled LMFP materials. At the same time, the parties will fully leverage their industry chain advantages to promote the adoption of graphene LMFP cathode materials by leading battery manufacturers and automotive companies. This initiative aims to meet carbon footprint requirements and rapidly penetrate the global market. The goal is to establish a world-class manufacturing base for graphene LMFP cathode materials, addressing the future challenges of recycling LMFP batteries in an environmentally friendly and economically viable manner, thereby promoting green and sustainable development in the global new energy sector.
At the signing ceremony, Chairman Liu Jianhong provided a detailed introduction to the proprietary graphene technology, expressing his anticipation for deep collaboration with GEM to accelerate the industrialization of graphene LMFP cathode materials, transform waste into wealth.
Chairman Xu Kaihua stated that despite the current severe global industry situation, we must always be full of hope which stems from innovation. The global development trend of the "new three" represented by new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and solar cells has not changed. We must firmly believe in the future of the new energy industry. He noted that ten years ago, Eigen Equation sounded the bugle for the research and development of graphene technology. Today, ten years later, GEM and Eigen Equation have jointly sounded the bugle for the industrialization of graphene. This collaboration to develop the industrialization technology for graphene LMFP materials will establish a world-leading manufacturing base for graphene LMFP cathode materials, positioning them as drivers and leaders in the industry.
Subsequently, Professor Liu Jianhong, Chairman of Eigen Equation, Lei Jie, General Manager of QM, and Huang Dongbo, Deputy General Manager of Power Battery Recycling, signed the agreement.
Eigen Equation has focused on graphene innovation for over a decade, having completed preliminary development on high-capacity graphene-coated LMFP cathode materials. QM has already completed the construction of a 20,000-ton production line for LMFP cathode materials, establishing a solid industrial foundation. Power Battery Recycling is a global leader in battery recycling and reuse, specializing in the remanufacturing of iron phosphate for battery, with partnerships in directed recycling with over 800 mainstream battery and electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide. Power Battery Recycling can manufacture tens of thousands of tons of recycled iron phosphate and lithium carbonate for battery. This three-party collaboration aims to jointly promote the industrial application of graphene-enhanced LMFP materials, and promote the adoption of graphene LMFP cathode materials by leading battery manufacturers and automotive companies. This effort will establish a directed recycling industry chain for LMFP materials, connecting "vehicle manufacturers—battery manufacturers—recycling plants." The goal is to enhance recycled materials through modification and upgrades, meeting the green, circular, low-cost, and high-performance requirements of new energy materials. This initiative aims to address carbon footprint concerns and drive high-quality development of new productive forces.
The team from Eigen Equation, along with Dr. Zhang Yuping, Vice General Manager of GEM and Chairman of Power Battery Recycling, Dr. Zhang Kun, Vice General Manager of GEM and Dean of GEM Central Research Institute, Pan Hua, Vice General Manager of GEM and Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Dong Yuebin, Assistant to General Manager of GEM, and Bai Liang, Chairman of QM, attended the signing ceremony.
