On 27th November 2014, the National Electronic Waste Recycling Engineering Research Center was grandly inauguration at Jingmeng GEM Recycling Industrial Park, the first management committee meeting and the academic committee meeting were held as well. Wang Sheng, the deputy director of platform base office of the development planning department of the National Ministry of Science and Technology, Zhen Yang, the director of e-waste processing office of solid waste center of the National Ministry of Environmental Protection, Zhen Chunbai, the deputy director of the science and technology office of Hubei Province, Wang Yong, the Jingmen municipal committee and the director of the Jingmen standing committee, Xiao Juhua, the deputy secretary and mayor of Jingmen municipality and other main leaders of Jingmen city, as well as Professor Chen Yong, the director of the academic committee meeting of National Electronic Waste Recycling Engineering Research Center, Professor Gong Yu, the deputy Party secretary of Beijing Industrial University, Professor Cai Liyuan, the director of National Heavy Metals Pollution Prevention Engineering Research Center, Professor Xu Kaihua, the director of National Electronic Waste Recycling Engineering Research Center, and experts from Guangzhou Energy Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Central south University, Beijing Industrial University, China Household Electric Appliance Research Institute, China National Resources Recycling Association, China Circular Economy Association, China Resources Recycling Association,  Chinese Home Appliance Repair Association, and guests from Sichuan Changhong Group, Tianjin TCL Group, Metso Lindemann Corporation and other upriver and downriver enterprises, brokers, institutional investors, media representatives, ect., a total of more than 500 guests attended this event.

National Electronic Waste Recycling Engineering Research Center (hereafter referred to as EWR-ERC) was organized based in Jingmen GEM, formly approved by the national ministry of science and technology on 28th September 2014. As the sole National Engineering Research Center in Electronic Waste Recycling industry, this center will stand on the world’s e-waste recycling technology level, promote the development of Chinese E-waste recycling in harmless and resource recovery by conquering the key technologies of e-waste recycling, in order to achieve the aim of leading the world, supporting the industry, serving the country.

Before the meeting, the guests visited Jingmen GEM which is a National Circular Economy Education Demonstration Base, National E-waste Recycling Engineering Technology and Research Center, Urban Mining Museum and analytic center. The guests had a visual understanding of the complete industrial chain of e-waste recycling of GEM on the spot。

At the meeting, Xiao Juhua, the deputy municipal party committee secretary, who was also the mayor of Jingmen, acted as the host and introduced the guests. Wang Sheng, the deputy director of platform base office of the development and planning department of the national ministry of science and technology, announced the project approval of the center. Xu Kaihua gave the opening address and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the support of Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Science and Technology Agency of HuBei Province and Jingmen  municipal party committee and the government. Many thanks also went to the capital market, for its promotion for GEM’s industrial development of the recycling of electronic waste. Prof. Xu also promised that GEM would strictly perform its duties and responsibilities, creating a leading high-tech incubator center as well as a talents training base, which could lead the way of the world, support the development of the industry and serve the country. Zheng Chunbai, the deputy director of the Science and Technology Agency of Hubei Province, said that the foundation of the center was an important event not only for Jingmen, but for the construction of the technical innovation platform of Hubei Province. He hoped that it could push the green and low-carbon development of Hubei by founding a healthy operation mechanism. Wang Yong, Jingmen’s municipal party secretary thought highly of GEM’s contribution to Jingmen’s development in the field of recycling economic industry and hoped that GEM would take the chance to help Jingmen evolve from a pilot city of recycling economy to a demonstration city. He also announced the foundation of the national electronic waste recycling engineering research center.

The listing and operating of the National Electronic Waste Recycling Engineering Research Center will open the new chapter of comprehensive promoting and rapid developing of the key technology in e-waste recycling industry in China, consolidate GEM’s technological leading status in the e-waste recycling industry, greatly enhance the global competitiveness and profitability of GEM’s electronic waste recycling business.
