A video conference on end-of-year review 2016 and goals for 2017 was held on 31st December, 2016. On the topic of “Strengthen Environmental Protection Severely, Reduce Cost Dramatically, Undertake Safe Production Massively and Achieve Economic Growth Significantly”, the symposium drew more than 2000 staff representatives from the group.

In the meeting, Professor Xu Kaihua, the Chairman of the Board of GEM, summarised Group"s work in 2016 and expressed best wishes for 2017. Firstly, Chairman Xu showed his gratitude to all GEM staff and cooperative partners, especially Ludger Rethmann from Remondis,  Althoff Ulrich from THYSSEN ALFA, Philippe Lavagna, Justin Nell and Michael Oehlers from Shu Powders and Lee Dong Chae from ECOPRO, who have made great contributions to the collaboration with GEM as global partners. He also appreciated the efforts and dedications from the international consultants Toda Toshiyuki, Hiratsuka Kazuya, Kuwahara Keiichi, Horichi Kazushige, Yoo Byung-Chul, Kim Man Gil and Craig Boljkovac.

Chairman Xu reviewed the extraordinary achievements of GEM in 2016 from nine aspects: strengthening the core business, implementing the transformation strategy of Urban Mines & New Energy Materials, returning to the economy-centered development approach, adjusting marketing strategies, gaining momentum in the capital market, developing incentive mechanism for talented personnel, promoting technological innovations steadily, establishing a comprehensive environmental management and risk control system, developing the layout under “The Belt and Road Initiative” and exploiting urban mines globally.

Afterwards, Chairman Xu carried out a prospect of GEM’s performance and indicated the development directions of the company in 2017. The nine aspects include: strengthen environmental protection, stick to the strategy of Urban Mine & New Energy Materials, undertake economy-centered production firmly, avoid a cash flow crisis, implement supply chain-based economic development, take positive measures to promote the development of the capital market, implement innovation-driven strategy, talent investment strategy and recycling culture strategy, as well as make safety the highest priority in production.

In the next session of the symposium, general managers of individual subsidiaries, including: GEM (Ningda) Industrial Park, GEM (Dewei) Industrial Park, GEM (Jingmen) Industrial Park, GEM (Jiangxi) Industrial Park、GEM (Kailike) Industrial Park、GEM (Wuxi) Industrial Park, GEM (Wuhan) Industrial Park, GEM (Inner Mongolia) Industrial Park and GEM (Shanxi) Industrial Park, etc., reviewed the performance of each companies in 2016, carried out the prospects for 2017 and expressed a strong commitment to achieving the targets of 2017.

Zhou Bo (Deputy General Manager, Head of Import and Export Department and Domestic Trade Department of GEM), Song Wanxiang (GEM Finance Director), Tang Dan (GEM Supervisor), Ouyang Mingzhi (Deputy General Manager, Head of Securities Department and Corporate Office of GEM), and Wang Min (Executive Deputy General Manager of GEM) reported the work achievements of individual departments. 

Chairman Xu made a closing remark and pointed out three requests for GEM in 2017: firstly, industrial parks and subsidiaries should pay attention to employees’ occupational health, take protective measures and routine physical examinations; secondly, industrial parks and subsidiaries should provide employees with support and assistance, promote the communication between departments and the development of friendships; thirdly, industrial parks and subsidiaries should enhance personal and property security and ensure employees a safe and peaceful New Year.

This symposium summarised the outstanding achievements of GEM in 2016 and clarify the targets and development directions for 2017. Greatly motivated by the speeches, GEM employees made the commitment to hard work for a harvest year 2017.
